Back in Paris from Lyon

Tonight we made it back home to Paris after a long day on the road.

After packing and loading our affairs and saying bye to the DiGenas, we drove north of Lyon to the home of IT colleagues Paul and Elisabeth Mussser. Although we got lost a couple of times, some friendly Lyonnais folk helped us find the way. We had a beautiful drive along the Saone River and even passed by the acclaimed restaurant of world-famous chef Paul Bocuse.

The time with the Mussers was great. They have a beautiful home with a yard and a dog that our kids both loved. The Mussers are very down to earth people who ask good questions. They've been in ministry in France for many years and have lots of wisdom. Paul is an excellent pastor and Elizabeth an outstanding writer who has had fictional novels published in both English and French. They major on the theological majors and minor in the minors.

From the Musser home, we started our trip back to Paris. The kids both had long naps in the car, so we pushed through a lot of kilometers in the afternoon. We found a rest stop that had a bouncy castle that both kids loved. Our daughter was hesitant at first, but didn't want to leave at the end.

On the drive home, I was struck by the beauty of France's countryside. Living in Paris, I forget how much open space there is in France. It really is a beautiful country.

We briefly toyed with the idea of visiting Taizé, which is north of Lyon around Macon. However, its web site showed that Brother Roger was stabbed to death there last week by a mentally disturbed woman. Very sad and shocking news! We figured that there would be too many people there yesterday, as there were funeral ceremonies the 2 previous days. But we would love to visit there sometime.
