Multizone DVD player

One challenge of DVDs is the different zones. I think that there are 6 zones in the world. The U.S. is zone 1 and Europe is zone 2. Most of our DVDs come from zone 1, while we live in zone 2.

Those who make DVDs feel that people in wealthier countries should pay more for DVDs than those in poorer countries. This is why they created this system of different zones, rather than just having one zone (like it is for music CDs).

Today I purchased a DVD player made for European current (220-240, rather than the 110-120 of the U.S.). Thus, it is made for zone 2. However, the salesman "dezoned" it, making it work for all 6 zones.

To me, it's stupid to have 6 zones.

Our kids will be happy that all their DVDs will now work in this machine, rather than just some of them. Some of their VeggieTales and Baby Einstein DVDs worked, while others didn't in our other machine.
