7th crêpe night of 2005 and more news on the Toronto team
A number of people e-mailed today that they read yesterday's blog and were praying about the situation. From what I've observed, it appears that these prayers have been helping the situation.
Yesterday morning I went into the Belleville offices and saw the team. They were in different emotional and psychological states, as would be expected. Thankfully, none of the women had been touched. But when they thought about what might have happened, this was upsetting to some on the team.
I have been concerned about "post traumatic stress disorder syndrome." From what I've read about handling incidents like what they experienced, it is important to have a mental health professional there within 24 hours if possible, in order to handle this syndrome.
The Toronto leaders have wisely sent one of the training coordinators, Mrs. Cathy Harris, to be with the team for a week. I went with one of the team leaders, Becca Arnold, to the airport this morning to pick her up. It's good to have a woman to be able to talk things through with the team, particularly the women on it.
I spent most of my afternoon yesterday taking the team to the police station to file a report. I think that 9 of them had something stolen, including several pasports, drivers licenses, digital cameras, Ipods, jewelry, etc. I'm getting quite familiar with the police station now, as I had to take Jsson from the Florida team there in May after his camera was stolen.
We moved up the crêpe night to last evening. They all seemed to enjoy the change of scenery, being in a house, and having full tummies of food. They were one of the most creative groups in terms of trying to form crêpes in innovative fashions. A number of them fell asleep on our sofas and floor.
It was a reminded to me of the role that we can play in helping mission teams recharge their batteries. I was reminded of how God ministered to Elijah after his victory on Mount Carmel. God provided food and rest for Elijah, after which he was able to march for many days in a row.
