Easter weekend planning meeting
This afternoon I attended a meeting about a weekend series of meetings in April around Easter. Members of one Paris church are the motors for this weekend. I attended as one of the 3 representatives of la Fonderie and our possible hosting of an event over Easter weekend.
There is one art history expert and lecturer in London, England who also is a committed follower of Jesus. He has accumulated photos of a series of classic paintings around the theme of the Passion week. He was there this afternoon to give an idea of how these paintings and his talks on them can be used to help direct people's thoughts to the Bible and what it says about the Passion of Christ.
I was very impressed. The paintings that he projected were thought provoking about the actual events of the Passion. They were done by some well-known artists like Leonardo DaVinci and French painter Eugene Delacroix. My art history knowledge is very limited, yet I knew and enjoyed them. He also drew a lot out of the content of the paintings through his expertise as an art historian. I think that there is a great need for Christians who are engaged whole heartedly in fields like art history.
His explanations of the content of the paintings provided a natural forum to tell what the Bible says about the different Passion events. I like this approach, especially for an audience that will have some people with little or no knowledge of the Bible or little or no commitment to the Christian faith.
I'm excited about this project. I think that we have enough lead time to publicize well the different events to appropriate audiences. I also think that this project will help draw together a number of us who don't know each other, but have a common heart and vision.
