Another birthday party
This afternoon I took our 5 year old son to the 5th birthday celebration of one of his classmates at school. She lives in the neighborhood and about a 6 minute walk from our place. We actually first met her and her mom at the Monday morning swim class several years ago before our kids started at the same school in September 2005.
There were points during their first school year where they didn't get along. However, this year they are getting along better. They often go to the same park after school with her mother or grandmother. This year, they are playing together.
Birthday parties are a way of getting further in relationships, which is why we invited more children last week to our son's party last week than most people invite. Today was the 4th birthday party of a classmate this school year that our son has attended.
This was our first time in the girl's home. After we arrived and got to the main room, I saw several Buddha statues or images. So I did some major praying then and on the walk back home for the spiritual well being of our son and his classmates.
It appears asjjjjjjjjjjj

I have taken a great interest in your blog, reading how you work within the city of Paris. It is a lovely bit of my day.
However, reading the last entry, you made mention of Buddha statues at a schoolmates home and from what I picked up, this bothered you. Why is it this?
For many, Buddha represents peace--enlightenment; the Awakened one. He isn't a God or a diety. Simple a man who tried to live a life of luxury, and could not find happiness so he moved on to a life of poverty and achieved enlightenment. Maybe because Buddhism does not include the idea of worshipping a creator "god", people do not see it as a religion in the normal, Western sense.
Buddhists aren't purple Koolaid drinking cult members--we have found a peace in our beliefs. We despise violence, believe in karma--fixed consequences, and we believe in kindess and respect for all living things. We also meditateto promote mindfulness opf breathing and a peace and tranquility of sorts.
May I ask, What makes one religion, one belief so much stronger or better than another? Perhaps I am misled and you didn't pass judgement on Buddha, but if in fact you did is it right?
I have a hard time believing 350 million+ Buddhists are wrong.
