Back to school
After 3 weeks out of school (1 week for chicken pox, 2 weeks for winter break), our son returned to school this morning (Monday). When we arrived, Eliza (one of his classmates who couldn't come to his birthday party) was waiting with a gift for him. His teacher and principal both wanted to know about his baby sister.
Having him in school helps bring some normalcy to our lives and schedules. His normal school schedule entails mornings and afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with a lunch break at home. Part of our normal routine involves 4 round trips from home to school to drop him off or pick him up.
After dropping him off at school this morning, I took our oldest daughter to baby swimmer class, another event of our normal week. One bummer of the school breaks is that this class is also cancelled during these weeks and our kids miss the class.
Today we brought the baby at lunch time when we picked him up. Our son's classmates (particularly the girls), teacher, and principal were happy to see her, as they knew that she was due to arrive the week that he had the chicken pox.
We had an afternoon visit from Pappy (Grandpa) Alain and his daughter Nathalie. We are fortunate to have friends like them who are native to France. They gave our baby a special teddy bear and baby perfume. We had an interesting discussion on church and emergent church, as Nathalie also attended the Brian McLaren seminar.
Our family is now making the adjustment to life as five, combined with living with the school rhythm here. It's tiring and time consuming, but part of our lives now.
