Hanging with Future Leaders

This morning I had a Fonderie meeting with Jim Beise. We're going to try to meet regularly on Wednesday mornings, as there is a lot of things that need to be decided and acted upon at the start of this new ministry year.

Just before returning home in the late afternoon, I popped by Pierre's office, which is down the stairs from Jim's. He was on his computer while Isaac (the new intern) was strumming an accoustic guitar on the sofa. Pierre played for me some of his tracks that have recently been recorded and will hopefully be released on an album by this Christmas. We've sung most of them at Belleville on Sunday mornings.

It struck me that Pierre and Isaac will likely be key leaders in the new generation of church leaders in France and the U.S. They have good, pure hearts and are trying their best to do what God has for them. Both are very gifted musically and in other creative domaines. Isaac will be helping create a cool, 20-something look for the Fonderie web site.

I saw the list of leaders for the upcoming Saturday evening "youth" services at Belleville. I think that I'm the oldest of the team that Pierre has assembled. Had I married and had kids in my 20s, then my kids would be the age of the youth that we're targeting. I don't envision any up front roles in this ministry. What I see myself doing the most is being there to encourage and pat on the back. I'll try to pass useful books, articles, and other resources that might be helpful in developing and sharpening a philosophy of ministry. I may drop in a suggestion or two regarding what might improve something. In any case, it will be like the role of an assistant player coach who is in the game, but wants to feed the younger ones the ball so they can score and succeed and win. For when they succeed, then we all win.
