Chicken Pox
We discovered this morning that our son has chicken pox. He had a couple of button-type growths with liquid in them around his neck last night. My wife discovered more of them this morning. She called the school, who said that this is going around now and asked us to get him checked out at a doctor. The doctor confirmed the diagnosis and recommended that he stay home from school for the whole week.
So...there goes the scheduled birthday party for Joel and his classmates on Wednesday. Since he has been talking about "birthday party" since last week, we quickly decided to have a family celebration for supper tonight. Marion and Pappy Alain will be coming.
We also decided to reschedule his birthday party with classmates for a week from Wednesday (February 8). I made up new re-invitations on the computer, dropped them off at his school at the end of the school day, and caught 5 of the parents and explained the situation. Although I had feared that some of the kids would be away skiiing next week, it appears that they will all be here. Since it's a school break, the kids might really need the break from home and enjoy being together again. It should give us a good chance to get to know some of them and their parents. If there is a bright side to this, it is that it is giving us this opportunity with the families.
Since my wife had the chicken pox as a kid, there isn't a risk for the baby. I and my daughter also have had the chicken pox, so neither of us should get them either.
In the meantime, we wait for Baby E. to arrive. And we'll have birthday cake tonight.
