24/7 Prayer Movement in France
This afternoon I attended a meeting of the 24/7 Prayer Movement in France. Isaac helped introduce me to this movement through lending me the book Red Moon Rising by Pete Grieg. I've still a novice in my knowledge about this movement, but what I have learned is interesting.
In was at the end of 1999 when God seemed to spurn on several different prayer movements quite independent of each other. This includes the 24/7 movement, as well as the International House of Prayer by Mike Bickle in Kansas City. The 24/7 movement was "accidentally" begun as Grieg, who had worked with youth churches in England, went on a pilgrimage in Europe and discovered the Moravian movement. One of Grieg's desires was to get young people motivated to pray.
The current head of the 24/7 movement in France is a young man named David. Originally from Mulhouse in eastern France, he now resides in Rouen in Normandy in western France. He looks like a relatively mild guy, but gets enthusiastic when he talks about the movement.
I'm curious about the possibilities of opening up "tabernacles of prayer," which are often called "boiler rooms," in Paris. One challenge in doing this in Paris is the geographic distance and transportation challenges in getting to one specific location for prayer.
I'm also curious to see how this type of movement could play in a church-startup in Paris. I'm sensing a little restlessness of spirit regarding some of our current ministry involvements and am trying to discern what this means.
Besides this meeting, I've also been working on sending e-publicity for the upcoming Fonderie series. I also posted the English version of the brochure for the June 23-25 weekend conference for artists in Paris. Click here to see it.
