Surprisingly still in Aurora, CO (Part 3)

We were supposed to be driving to Utah this morning to be with Steve & Cathy Ater and share in their church. However, life events sometimes throw a monkey wrench into our schedules.

Last night, my wife's right knee cap (patella, in medical terms) popped out of joint while she was trying to break up an argument between our 2 oldest kids. I heard her screaming and went into to find her in terrible pain.

Having been outside of the U.S. for many years, we weren't sure what to do. We had my dad get Jim, the manager of the apartment complex and an assistant sports coach. He suggested that we call 911. In less than 5 minutes, there were at least 6 people, including firemen and EMT technicians.

We had our first ride in an ambulance to the E.R. After she checked in, was x-rayed, and had 2 different sedatives, Dr. Savage (unfortunate name for a doctor) quickly popped the kneecap into place. She ended up getting an immobilizing knee brace and a set of crutches (which are much lighter and more high tech than the wooden crutches that I used in 1979. She was released last night and Jim drove us back to the apartment complex where we're staying.

She has been given instructions using the acronym RICE. Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate. She's still had some pain and is taking Tylenol to try to help alleviate it.

I took our oldest 2 out on a breakfast and Walmart shopping trip to give her a 3 hour break this morning. The 3 of us went to a preview showing of the soon to be released Veggie Tales episode. It was at the Eastern Hills Community Church where my brother is on staff. It was an enjoyable time.

While traveling today, we listened to the Veggie Tales sing-a-long CD in the car. Our nearly 3 year old daughter loves to sing already. It's quite moving to hear her try to imitate the words. She often just gets the last word of a phrase.

Anyway, our schedule is now on hold, until we see how her knee recuperates. We'll have a better read by Sunday.
